Completion of Assessment and Registration of Food Safety Management System
Hikari Miso Co., Ltd. has completed assessment and registration of DIS22000, according to the standard written document of DIS22000 Food Safety Management Program, which is in the drafting stage to be standardized by International Organization for Standardization (ISO) next fall.
In recent years, as a response to escalating interest of consumers toward food safety, each food manufacturer has been taking measures to communicate to consumers how they are delivering safe food products, such as ISO9001 Quality Management System, introduction of HACCP system, Installation of trace ability system, etc.
Under such circumstance, at International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which standardize measures that can be accepted internationally has been preparing ISO22000 Food Safety Management System standardization, as a new measure in reference to the food safety.
It is scheduled to be issued next fall. We were adopting the hygienic management method of HACCP System since 1998, as an approach to food safety, however, Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare had only limited number of 5 categories of industry, such as milk/dairy products, soft drinks, meat products, fish sausage products, and retort pouch products, to be recognized. Therefore, we were moving ahead in the form of self-declaration.Since ISO registered DIS (Draft-International-Standard), which is the drafting document of ISO22000 standardization in June, our company had decided to develop existing HACCP system into food safety management system that is based on this DIS22000.
We went through screening in July by the Assessment and Registration Division of Japanese Standards Association Foundation, according to DIS22000 as the baseline document, and we completed the registration on September 10.
We were able to complete the registration shortly after DIS became official, thanks to the Assessment department of Japanese Standards Association, that does assessment of our ISO9001&14001. They had suggested our company to go through screening during DIS stage, before ISO22000 was issued.
